In Character (ongoing)
This project reimagines the tradition of conceptual self-portraiture through a series of evocative, cinematic narratives. Each image presents a fictional character brought to life through elaborate stagings, where I assume the role of photographer, director, and protagonist.
Aesthetically, this project weaves the timeless elegance of classical art with the immersive storytelling of modern visual narratives. Each self-portrait is a meticulously composed scene, rich with symbolic detail and dramatic interplay of light and shadow, evoking the depth and emotional resonance of historical portraiture. Through elaborate stagings and layered storytelling, the work blurs the line between fiction and reality, presenting fictional characters that explore themes of identity, gender roles, and the intricate relationship we hold with ourselves.
In an age of increasing digital connectivity and curated personas, the work offers a counterpoint by delving into the complexities of self-exploration. Its cinematic and performative approach resonates with the visual culture of the time, drawing in audiences accustomed to storytelling through film and social platforms.
Furthermore, the project addresses ongoing challenges related to women’s rights and representation, making it a poignant reflection on the resilience of women in navigating systemic barriers. By blurring the lines between fiction and reality, it encourages viewers to question their own perceptions and engage with deeper, often uncomfortable truths about societal expectations and personal freedom.
